If you've walked into a lash studio in Singapore in the last five years, you've probably been asked some version of: “What style are you thinking — Classic, Hybrid, Volume, 7D, 9D, or Manga?” If you nodded along while internally panicking, you're not alone. The eyelash-extension industry has invented more category names than it has materials, and most of them mean the same handful of things underneath.

At Serenity Beaute's eyelash extension Singapore studio in Tanjong Pagar, we offer eleven curated styles across four families. Below is the honest guide we wish every first-time client had before walking in — what each style actually is, who it suits, what it costs, and how long it really lasts in Singapore's climate.

The four families of eyelash extensions

Forget the marketing names for a second. Every eyelash extension in Singapore — regardless of what it's branded — falls into one of four technical families, defined by how many synthetic fibres are bonded to each of your natural lashes.

1. Natural (Classic, Lash-by-Lash)

One ultra-thin synthetic fibre placed onto one of your natural lashes. No fans, no clusters, no shortcuts. This is the most technically demanding style — a 90-minute appointment is entirely the artist isolating one lash and placing one extension at a time. If you've ever heard someone say their extensions look “like nothing,” this is what they had.

Best for: first-timers, professionals, minimalists, monolid eye shapes, anyone whose office takes themselves too seriously. Trial from $78. See Natural Lash by Lash.

2. Hybrid

A hand-blended mix of classic lash-by-lash extensions and light volume fans. Hybrid sits between “natural” and “visible” — soft texture, added body, but still undetectable in person. It's the most flexible style on our menu and the most photographed in our Singapore portfolio.

Best for: daily wear with a touch of body, brides who want subtle photo presence, clients who want one set that works for both office and weekend. Trial from $88. See Hybrid Classic or Hybrid Airy.

3. Volume

Hand-made fans of 5 to 7 ultra-thin extensions (5-7D) bonded to one natural lash. The trick is that the fibres are so thin — 0.05mm and below — that the combined weight is still less than a single classic extension. You get soft, three-dimensional fullness without stressing the natural lash.

Best for: brides, performers, anyone who attends a lot of evening events, photographers' favourite for portrait shoots. Trial from $108. See Volume Fluffy.

4. Designer (7-9D, Mega, Manga, Camellia)

The widest fans we hand-make — 7 to 9 fibres per cluster, or spiked clusters for editorial “manga” / doll-eye looks. This is unapologetically full lashes. We see them mostly on pageant queens, performers, brides who want the biggest moment, and clients who treat lashes as couture.

Best for: high-impact looks, photography, stage work, weddings where the bride wants to lean in. Trial from $128–$148. See Designer Manga or Ultra 7-9D Mega.

How to choose the right style for your eye shape

The first thing any responsible lash artist in Singapore should do is map your eye shape before recommending a style. Our fifteen-minute consultation looks at six variables:

  • Eye shape — almond, round, monolid, downturned, hooded
  • Natural lash health — length, taper, density, age-related thinning
  • Lid space — how much room you have between lash line and crease
  • Eyebrow position — affects perceived eye openness
  • Lifestyle — gym frequency, swimming, side sleeping, screen time
  • Maintenance appetite — touch-up cadence you can realistically commit to

Almond eyes carry almost any style. Round eyes benefit from cat-eye mapping with extra length on the outer third. Monolid eyes need lift, not length — too much length here gets pushed down by the lid and looks droopy. Hooded eyes need volume-low-curl to avoid touching the lid. Downturned eyes look best with outer-corner lift to balance the angle.

How long do eyelash extensions actually last in Singapore?

Properly applied, a full set lasts 4 to 6 weeksbefore needing a touch-up. Singapore's climate is more friendly to extensions than you'd think — cyanoacrylate adhesives actually cure with moisture in the air. The real enemies are:

  • Oil-based products — sunscreens, eye creams, makeup removers. Oil dissolves the bond.
  • Steam in the first 24 hours — including hot showers, saunas, and the steam from your morning coffee held close to your face.
  • Friction — rubbing, sleeping face-down, harsh cleansing.
  • Waterproof mascara — requires oil-based remover. Just skip it.

We've had Singapore clients wear extensions continuously for years with healthy natural lashes underneath. The trick is technical: extensions calibrated to the weight your natural lashes can carry, never the other way around.

What about eyebrow embroidery — same idea?

If you're researching eyelash extensions, you'll often see eyebrow embroidery come up alongside. They're sister services — both shape the eye area, often booked together as part of a 60-day “wake-up-ready face” refresh. We've written a separate guide on eyebrow embroidery Singapore including how Natural 3D, Misty, 6D and 9D techniques compare.

How much should eyelash extensions cost in Singapore?

The Singapore market range for a first-trial full set runs from $48 (mall studios, unbranded materials) to $250+ (premium salons, KC-certified fibres). At Serenity Beaute, our first-trial pricing sits intentionally in the middle of the premium tier: $78 for Natural Lash by Lash, $88 Hybrid, $108 Volume, $128 Ultra, $148 Designer. Regular full-set pricing runs $118 to $188.

The thing nobody discounts is the artist's time. A genuine hand-made volume set takes 120 to 150 minutes of focused work. If a salon promises that for $50, the maths only works if they shortcut the materials, the application, or both. Your natural lashes pay the bill later.
